In honour of Valentine’s day, here is a selection of rugs that celebrate love in various different ways.
Rugs featuring handwritten love messages were first created by Rug Star eighteen years ago. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the brand decided to reproduce this signature collection, introducing new designs and slogans every month, the first of which is shown above.
A common association with love and Valentine’s day is the heart shape, as displayed above in this rug by Illulian. But where did this association originate? One possible explanation comes from antiquity. In the 5th–6th century BC, the heart shape was used to represent the heart-shaped fruit of the plant silphium, a plant that represents romantic love.
Floor Story collaborated with Choose Love for this collection, in which all proceeds from every purchase went directly to the charity to help support refugees in thirty countries.
Another association with love and Valentine’s day is the colour red, exhibited beautifully here in this rug by Creative Matters Inc.
