COVER’S PICK OF DECOREX CARPET AND TEXTILE EXHIBITORS.

Decorex is returning to London with a new date and a new venue. The move from Syon Park to the more accessible Olympia in west London has been welcomed by all, whereas the later date feels like more of an unknown quantity—it remains to be seen how the show will fare outside of London Design Festival. Also new for 2019 is ‘Design Encounter’, a series of interconnected rooms created by architect John Allsopp in collaboration with six interior design studios including Natalia Miyar Atelier, Samantha Todhunter Design and Zachary Pulman. Promising UK emerging makers can as usual be found in the ‘Future Heritage’ display, handpicked by arts and design critic and curator Corinne Julius— look out for Hsiao-Chi Tsai’s textile-inspired sculptures. Most importantly, there are plenty of exhibitors of rug and textile interest. TANIA JOHNSON

‘We will be showing five new hand-knotted designs, the Echoes collection. Each design is based on photographs I have taken which are evocative of time and memories both recent and from childhood. We will also be showing some new handloom rugs with layered and carved designs. The new October date will be a refreshing change. Coinciding with PAD and Frieze Art Fair will align the show with a week known for contemporary art and design.’

RIVIERE

‘Riviere will present new designs Raku Tempest, Orissa, Octopussy Clouds, Layar, Rothko Jade and Caumont Aegean, all created by Camilla and Leo Riviere. Decorex will also be the occasion for the launch of Caledonia, a new collection born from the collaboration with O&A London, a creative duo of Russian architect Oleg Klodt and designer Anna Agapova. The location of the new venue will surely attract more trade and retail visitors.’

ELIZABETH ASHARD

‘I will be bringing both Tibetan knotted and Moroccan-weave rugs to the stand. I am a rug designer who works closely with clients to produce unique and beautifully-made bespoke pieces that enhance interior projects. I think the move to Olympia is very positive, it will be great to be back in London and I’m sure visitors will feel the same. The later date is also good as it won’t conflict with all that happens in London in September.’

FERREIRA DE SÁ

‘We will be showcasing some new products and techniques with a great focus on design and practicality. At the moment we can’t divulge any more as we like to save all of the news for the fair itself. We’ve been creating wild and exclusive rugs to include in our new hand-tufted catalogue (which will be released in October at Decorex). As for the venue, we are anticipating an increased number of attendees as it’s more central compared to Syon Park.’
