During the London Design Festival, 16-24 September 2017, there are a number of events across the city worth visiting outside of the major fairs—Decorex, Designjunction and the London Design Fair (formerly Tent and Superbrands). Here’s a run down of those that COVER recommends hunting down over the next 10 days.
Villa Walala by Camille Walala—a colourful architectural landscape that will be popping up in Exchange Square, Broadgate. citizenM Shoreditch is collaborating with London-based designer Yinka Ilori to transform the hotel’s entrance into a vibrant public playground. Deirdre Dyson will create a display entitled Windswept Leaves at her gallery on the Kings Road. The installation will comprise a specially-designed carpet of falling leaves from British heritage trees.
Launching at the London Transport Museum will be Margo Selby’s new fabric Motion for the museum. Selby will be holding a pop-up exhibition in the museum shop to showcase the fabric and its development. In Memoriam is the name of the textile and tapestry installation New York-based designer Martyn Thompson will be holding at 4 Cromwell Place in South Kensington. The new work will reflect Thompson’s love for nature and fascination with the beauty of the patina of time.
Front London will be showing the Artwork collection by Jan Kath at the firm’s 2 Bruton Place showroom in Mayfair. At Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, Focus (17-22 September) will bring together all of London’s top interior obsessives—rug brands include Front, Topfloor by Esti, Tufenkian and Tai Ping.
