Showing to 25 October at Maria Wettergren Galerie in Paris is Water Mirror; an exhibition of Jacquard tapestries and a video installation by the Danish artist, weaver and textile designer Grethe Sørensen.

Grethe Sørensen & Bo Hovgaard, Reflexion, 2016, video Limited edition of 5 + 1 prototype, 152 x 244 x 60 cm, Polyester, metal and Lillebaelt II tapestry
Each large scale, one-off woven piece has been created at the TextielLab at the Tilburg TextielMuseum in the Netherlands, and is based on the artist’s observations of light reflections on the water of Venetian canals. Her earlier 2013 body of woven works, ‘Rush Hour / Shanghai 5’ is informed by video footage of blurred lights moving through the urban night. Both series play on the fact that both digital imagery and woven surfaces are made up of pixels; recent sophisticated loom technology and programming are making it possible for weavers to link these two mediums in increasingly creative and complex ways.
Maria Wettergren Galerie will participate in late night opening as part of FIAC Nocturne des Galeries on Thursday 20th October. All photos: Marc Domage. Courtesy of Galerie Maria Wettergren.
