The latest collection from Vanderhurd is the luxury brand’s first collaboration with an artist. ‘Woven Cities’ at Maddox Arts, London showcases the new pieces designed by Cipriano Martinez until 19 December 2015. A feature on the project appears in COVER 41 by Jonathon R. Jones, read an extract below.

‘When Christine Van Der Hurd, director of luxury fabric brand Vanderhurd, met Venezuelan artist Cipriano Martinez in London back in 2013, it was clear from the start that the resulting collaboration would be something special. Christine, an artist herself who trained at the famous Winchester Art College in the 1970s, has long held a fascination with the geometric. From her time spent travelling in Islamic countries to developing her own striking compositions, the power of line and angle has always been central to her aesthetic. It seems natural then that she would be drawn to the work of Chelsea College of Art graduate Cipriano Martinez, an artist whose prints and oil paintings draw inspiration from both maps and the grids of geometric abstract art.’
