Middle East Covering, the only exhibition in the Middle East dedicated to the flooring, wall covering and surfaces industries, is drawing near. On 18-21 May, tens of thousands of design professionals will travel to Dubai to discover the trends that are set to shape the industry in coming years. In the first of a two-part preview, COVER introduces three exhibitors to look out for in the Sheikh Saeed Halls of Dubai’s World Trade Centre.
Sharda Exports (S D61), familiar from Domotex Hannover, Heimtextil and Maison&Objet, are bringing signature bold rugs featuring hand-knotted as well as tufted varieties. The bright and environmentally friendly carpets made using recycled silk from the ‘Recycled with Love’ collection (above) are sure to stand out. Adapting their approach to the Middle East market, Sharda will also be presenting leather rugs, which have proven very popular in the region. However, the most important objective for the exhibition is to launch The Rug Republic, a new export model aimed at eliminating issues of minimum order quantities and lead times.
Suminoe Co Ltd (S B51), a Japanese company with a 130 year-old history, are taking their focus on ecology and green thinking to the Middle East. All products are made in Japan using post-consumer recycled materials. In 2012 Suminoe obtained the Green Label Plus, a certification by the Carpet and Rug Institute of the United States, for its carpet tiles. These modular products will be the brand’s main attraction in Dubai, with Middle East Covering representing the first major venture in the area.
Tehran-based Arta Naghsh Tech (S D56) has been in the carpet business for more than fifty years. A leading producer and distributor of flooring and floor coverings in Iran and worldwide, the company manufactures carpets for both residential and commercial use. For Middle East Covering, Arta Naghsh will be exhibiting wall-to-wall carpet and PVC tiles in plenty of designs, colours and materials suitable for stylish contemporary interiors.
