Design Studio MARCJANSSEN (the retail brand of ICE International, Dutch creators of handmade, contemporary rugs and tapestries) has created two special rugs for a collaboration with boardwear label Protest. These unique designs have been translated into two exclusive jacket styles.
For the women’s jacket design a Moldavian kilim pattern was reinterpreted. The flat-knotted rugs traditionally illustrate brightly coloured roses set against a dark background. These floral motifs were enlarged for and executed in Protest’s trend colours for winter.
AÂ classical Persian carpet was the starting point for the male jacket. The design was given a modern makeover for this rug and jacket. A traditional floral, paisley pattern was transformed into an abstract camouflage-like print remarkably well. This contemporary interpretation of the iconic pattern tells the story of the Design Studio, akin to Iranian rug makers putting their narratives into their designs in the old days.
