A solo show of Michelle Evans’ award-winning rugs, with a number of new designs is currently being presented at the J+A Gallery in Dubai. ‘Art off the Loom’ is a collection of hand-knotted rugs which are showcased under Michelle’s brand Ayka, on show until 29 May 2014.
She unveiled her pieces a few months ago in Hanover, Germany and has since been nominated for and awarded a number of prizes. For the first time she will present a collection in the Gulf where the rugs are regionally manufactured to the highest quality standards. Her rugs use wool and silk and the manufacturing process relies on traditional knowledge and craftsmanship but design-wise they are contemporary and fit for a modern living environment.
