Pangolin London present Sculpture in the Home at their Kings Cross showroom celebrating the Arts Council England touring exhibitions of the same name in the 1940s and 50s
Dedicated sculpture gallery, Pangolin London in Kings Cross presents ‘Sculpture in the Home’ to 17 May 2014. The appetite in interior style for all things mid century modern continues to grow, and this show revisits a concept first pioneered and curated by the Arts Council England in the 1940s and ‘50s.
The original touring exhibitions of the same name were the first of their kind to present sculpture in a domestic setting, with the aim of reforming notions of interiors by integrating art and design. To celebrate this British design era, Pangolin London has transformed the gallery space into a series of homely scenes with period furnishings evocative of a contemporary post war abode.
Sculpture by many of the artists that were featured in the original touring show are being shown, including works by Lynn Chadwick, Geoffrey Clarke and Bernard Meadows. Once again offering the opportunity to view sculpture within an ‘intimate setting of furniture and textiles, rather than in the more conventional atmosphere of the ordinary gallery exhibition’. Sanderson fabrics were a quintessential element in the modern mid 20th century interior and, along with Ernest Race Furniture and Carter Wells Interior Design Agency; the company have been partners in the current exhibition too.
