Cocktail Carpet- We Make Carpets

Graphic designer Lance Wyman has designed a Roadsigns rug recreating a traditional Persian carpet using existing standard road signs. The handknotted rug, commissioned by Odabashian, was on show at San Ildefonso in downtown Mexico City as part of the Abierto Mexicano de Diseño. The familiar icons and shapes were designed to create symmetry often seen in traditional rugs. It is perhaps ironic that the slow, traditional method of handknotting rugs is juxtapositional with signs that alludes to current society’s perception of ‘speed’.
