Alexander McQueen and Damien Hirst – two of the biggest names in Britain – have collaborated together to create thirty limited edition scarves, available from 15 November 2013.
The iconic skull scarf from McQueen has been on the market for a decade and in celebration, Hirst has adapted his entomology series to the designs. Hirst began working on these large scale paintings from 2009, composed from the intricate placement of butterflies, spiders and various insect species in the formation of kaleidoscopic, geometric shapes. The motifs on the scarves are designed to have the same organisational layout of McQueens signature skull image – an unmistakable emblem of his brand, first seen in his S/S13 Irere collection. The artist and designer play on each other’s creative vision such as symmetry and strong references to natural history and the environment.
A short film has also been created by photographer Sølve Sundsbø, linked below. The collection is available in chiffon, pongĂ©, twill and cashmere and can be purchased exclusively from Alexander McQueen boutiques and online at alexandermcqueen.com – but be quick, they’re flying off the shelves!
