Large Tree Group, Victoria Crowe, 1975. Tapestry being made from the original painting

Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh will be holding a trio of textile shows this summer, under the title of ‘Follow The Thread’. The triptych of exhibitions includes ‘Fleece to Fibre: The Making of the Large Tree Group Tapestry’, which explores the process behind the creation of a tapestry of Large Tree Group, a painting by Victoria Crowe. The tapestry uses a natural palette and so the wool used is undyed. ‘Artist Rugs: Dovecot’s Contemporary Rug Collection’ will feature a selection of hand-tufted rugs made by Dovecot weavers in collaboration with contemporary artists. Both of these shows are on 2 August to 14 September. Lastly Dazzle@Dovecot will present work by 50 contemporary jewellers, including pieces that incorporate textiles, on 2-26 August.
