In less than two weeks, COVER will be a featured media stand at New Designers 2013 – the exhibition for emerging design. Ever on the hunt for trends and new talent in carpet and textile designs, we are delighted to present the work of Jasveer Panesar who exhibited at New Designers 2012 and is an alumnus too of the Alexander McQueen work experience programme.

Inspired by a visit to India in 2007, Jasveer’s final year project “The Spirit of Colour” includes digitally printed textiles and hand woven fabrics laced with shots of gold inspired by Harmandir Sahib also known as the Golden Temple, a famous Sikh Gurdwara in Amritsar, Punjab. The image below shows four of her hand woven designs each using different yarns ranging from acrylics to silk, and her designs for soft furnishings. Jasveer includes select areas of hand beading, and hand finishes each fabric to create rich, luxurious results.

Jasveer designed her “Tender” collection (below) with soft, worn looking colours. Using AVL and Dobby hand looms, Jasveer designed bespoke peg plans and used a variety of yarns including mohair to create different “worn” and “tender” qualities.
