One Day in the life of V.M. on Earth is the title of a piece of work shown at the ANOTHER TERRA – IN Residence Exhibition at Ventura Lambrate during Milan Design Week 2012 by design duo Lanzavecchia + Wai, whose Streamline rug we have previously featured (click here). The everyday actions of a routine day are recorded and woven into a quilt using strips of Mylar. The strips are hand-stamped with a repeated word, like a mantra, which represent actions, rituals and objects encountered on a daily routine and they are then woven into a ‘Space Quilt’ in chronological order.

The designers comment: “It was not uncommon, in early American culture, for quilts to reflect a mosaic of a woman’s life, often including swatches of material from memorable events… One day in the life of V.M. on Earth is both the product of a private story and an artifact for the future.”
