The Bayeux Tapestry will be exhibited at the British Museum from September 2026 until July 2027, marking its first appearance in England since its creation in the 11th century.

On loan from France, the extraordinary 70-metre embroidered narrative chronicles the events leading to the Norman Conquest of 1066 across 58 detailed scenes, featuring 626 figures, 202 horses and 41 ships.

The exhibition forms part of a landmark cultural exchange between the UK and France, with the British Museum lending nationally significant Anglo-Saxon treasures, including artefacts from Sutton Hoo and the Lewis Chessmen, to museums in Normandy.

Bringing together history, craftsmanship and storytelling, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience one of Europe’s most celebrated textile masterpieces.
