Venice Biennale opens 9 May
Opening tomorrow on 9 May, Venice Biennale 2026 will see Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed represent the Azerbaijan pavilion with The Attention, an immersive exhibition exploring perception, consciousness and contemporary anxiety through textile, sound and technology.
Curated by Gwendolyn Collaço, the presentation draws on traditional carpet-making techniques while integrating quantum systems, data-driven processes and references to Hurufi philosophy. Best known for transforming conventional weaving into contemporary sculptural works, Ahmed’s new site-specific installation continues his exploration of the relationship between craft, technology and cultural memory.

Running from 11–17 May, London Craft Week 2026 returns with a city-wide celebration of craftsmanship, making and contemporary design.
Among this year’s textile and rug highlights are hands-on tapestry weaving workshops with Vandra Rugs; Swedish weaving and decorative arts presented by Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB and Sophia Elliot at Nina Campbell; and a conversation between Luke Irwin and Speronella Marsh exploring heritage and contemporary interiors.
Elsewhere, Beate von Harten showcases sustainable textile craftsmanship rooted in generational weaving traditions, while Volga Linen and Pelican House examine folkloric weaving techniques through a contemporary lens.
