Dedicated to the late architect Balkrishna V. Doshi, Aspura Gallery brings a focused to a re-vamped tribute to the original Kamala House Carpet, captured in its retro-80s lens. The collectible carpet gallery founded by Jaipur Rugs returned to India Art Fair 2026 with its second gallery presentation.

Aspura is a gallery for collectable carpets, presenting contemporary editions and carefully curated antiques created or selected by leading designers, artists and curators. Each piece is conceived as a museum-quality object and a future heirloom.

At the centre of the showcase was an exclusive edition of The Kamala House Carpet, displayed alongside a rare vintage desk that were both designed by Doshi himself. The installation is staged within an abstract interpretation of the architect’s living room. Captured in a lens of retro-nostalgia, it offers an intimate glimpse into his domestic world.

Doshi is the second visionary to be featured within Aspura’s evolving gallery programme.

The exhibition highlights two facets of Doshi’s practice. Originally designed in the 1980s for his Ahmedabad home, The Kamala House Carpet has been reissued in bamboo silk following a commission from Doshi’s estate. Produced as a limited edition of ten, it marks the first of his designs to enter production.

Aspura operates as a gallery without a permanent physical space. Its programme spans contemporary editions and carefully selected antique carpets, developed in collaboration with artists, designers and curators, and chosen by leading voices from contemporary culture.

Balkrishna V. Doshi and the CEPT DESK

A protégé of Le Corbusier, Doshi went on to define modern Indian architecture through landmark projects including CEPT University, IIM Bangalore and the Aranya Low-Cost Housing development. In 2018, he became the first Indian architect to receive the Pritzker Prize.

Alongside Aspura is the CEPT Desk (1970), a modest yet rigorous piece reflecting Doshi’s modernist philosophy. Sourced directly from CEPT alumni, the desk underscores his holistic approach to architecture and design.

Aspura’s wider programme continues to expand into significant antique carpets, often drawn from the private collection of founder Yogesh Chaudhary, reinforcing the platform’s mission to elevate carpet design within global cultural discourse.
