Eight new rugs that did not make it into the upcoming Winter issue of COVER but are definitely worthy of note

The Land of Beginnings, Whispers of the Desert collection, Jaipur Rugs x Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi

The new collection by Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi for Jaipur Rugs launched last month at the Tanweer Festival in UAE. The six designs are a contemplative journey through the timeless landscapes of Mleiha and the ancient terrain of Jebel Faya. They express Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi’s deep passion for history, craftsmanship, and the power of storytelling. The Land of Beginnings illustrates a land illuminated by the night sky, alive with eddies and stars.

Apollo, Anniversary collection, Finarte

The new Anniversary collection by the Finnish brand celebrates and updates the long tradition of rag rugs. Finland’s rich textile history might be less well known that others but we all know rag rugs, called räsymatto in Finnish. The tradition began in the early 1800s and became especially meaningful during the hardship of the WW2 years and the post-war rebuilding. For 2025, Finarte is celebrating its 40th anniversary with this special collection using designs from the archive by Finarte’s founder, Eija Rasinmäki, who is now 80.

Helix, Erik Lindstrom

New York-based Erik Lindstrom has five new designs for 2026, including Helix. The hand-knotted design is made in Nepal using Tibetan wool and silk. Available in three colourways, this example is in sienna and sage. Rich brown tones are certainly in for the year ahead so this design could be a winner.

Appliqué, Riviere x Angel O’Donnell

Riviere Rugs has joined forces with renowned interior design studio Angel O’Donnell for a new collaborative collection, which includes Appliqué. The design is all about finishing touches—a brushed fringe, a leather trim, a refined border—and is hand-knotted in wool and silk.

Lilly, Layered

The Lilly rug is one of the cornerstones of Layered’s Swedish Homage collection and it is now available in three new soft shades. The new palette introduces a muted green, a crisp sky blue (above) and a deep rust red. The Lilly design pays tribute to the pioneering female textile artists of the 20th century. The collection is handwoven in 100% wool in India.

Trellis, Selvage collection, Floor Story

The new Selvage collection design by Gill Thorpe for Floor Story is a new series of four flatwoven rugs that focus on the border design, which is created with complementary tones and contrasting hues. Each of the four is named after an embroidery stitch. Pink is the main story in Trellis, while Herringbone features a strong red, Lattice comes in shades of green and Chevron is more neutral in colour.

Helia Rust, The Rug Company x Winch

Surface & Stillness is a new collaborative collection by Winch for The Rug Company. The three hand-knotted designs focus on materiality and subtle sculptural detail, depicting abstract topographies. Made of silk, wool, and hemp, they come in a sand-toned palettes titled Rust and Natural.

Champ de blé – Bleu Or, Diacasan x Sophie Tolachides

As a geographer and interior designer, for this collaborative rug design with Diacasan, Sophie Tolachides drew inspiration from geography, territory and natural space in order to combine meaning and creativity. The hand-tufted Champ de Blé rug is available in two colourways: one in midnight blue and gold, recalling the intensity of landscapes at dusk and the other reflecting the warmth of sand alongside wheat tones.
