Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed transforms traditional weaving into a mesmerising study of pattern, perception and spiritual flux

Purdue University is hosting ‘Mystic of Matter’, a solo exhibition by Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed, whose visionary textiles dissolve the boundaries between tradition and transformation. Known for his carpets that appear to glitch, melt or ripple, Ahmed reinterprets centuries-old weaving forms through a contemporary, often surreal lens. At the Ringel Gallery, his works pulse with spiritual energy: patterns shift and unravel, suggesting a dialogue between the ancient and the digital, the material and the mystical. Woven by hand yet charged with conceptual depth, Ahmed’s textiles transform the loom into both instrument and oracle. Mystic of Matter runs through 18 December, inviting viewers to experience weaving as an act of transcendence, where tradition becomes a living, evolving field of meaning.
