A deep-dive into the woven offerings at Kensington Olympia’s Decorex, which had its final day today

‘Farway’ from the Linear Collection, Roger Oates
There are few design shows that unite the design community quite like Decorex. Spirits were high at this year’s edition, which saw a confident return to the vibrant business levels seen before the post-COVID lull, and it was difficult to find a stand of the 280 that wasn’t buzzing with excited conversation. This sense of optimism was perhaps visually represented by the bright colours that dominated stands, particularly those of rug brands.

Rug at the Ishkar stand
There was an indubitable increase in rug companies as compared with the past few years, many of which had returned to the show following a hiatus. Ishkar made its second appearance at Decorex, debuting new vibrant rug designs as well as its first collection of fabrics. Hand-embroidered by Afghan artisans in Pakistan, the collection honours Central Asia’s age-old embroidery heritage, interpreting folkloric motifs in a contemporary style. Also deviating from its usual offerings, Roger Oates Design, a brand identified with stair runners and flatweaves, presented the brand’s Linear Collection, which reimagines woven textile patterns as hand-tufted rugs with varied pile heights, offered in over fifty colours.

‘Sienna’ rug and runner, Margo Selby
It is difficult to discuss colour without a mention of Margo Selby, whose vibrant stand can be spotted from a mile away. A highlight here was the Sienna rug and runner, drawing directly from Margo’s handwoven artworks, exemplifying the studio’s ‘art into industry’ philosophy. Also not shying away from colour is Northwest 35, which displayed its new East & West Coalesce Collection at Decorex. A striking tribute to global diversity, the four rugs in the collection combine Scottish tartan with South Indian saree motifs.

A few exhibitors were celebrating significant expansions to their businesses. Loomah‘s new sister brand, Avalon, made its debut at the show. Born of a desire to cut the lead times associated with high-end interiors, the brand produces bespoke rugs in Britain, and its first collection, Ethereal, features eight designs inspired by British myths and legends. Jacaranda also introduced a sister company at the show. Hibiscus blends bold, playful design with the brand’s signature craftsmanship, rich textures and durable, high-quality materials.

Other standout brands at Decorex 2025 include Knots Rugs, with two collections which had recently made their debut at COVER Connect New York. One of these interprets the abstract paintings of Beñat Olaberria as hand-knotted rugs, using varied pile heights to explore depth and texture in black. The brand was hosting workshops led by the artist at the stand, engendering a deeper appreciation for his process. Riviere’s new Angkor, Calypso and Chicama collections combine expert craftsmanship with inspired designs, ranging from bold temple motifs and vibrant abstract patterns to serene, coastal-inspired rugs. Also drawing inspiration from architecture and coastal landscapes was Holmes Bespoke with its Como Collection, a deeply personal tribute to Lake Como, inspired by Creative Director Laylah Holmes’ annual visits and affection for the region’s timeless beauty.
