Highlighting the rug events not to miss in London next week

Christopher Farr

Saturday marks the start of this year’s London Design Festival when the city comes alive with creativity. In terms of specific rug events there numerous that should not be missed.

In East London, as part of the Shoreditch Design Triangle, Christopher Farr will present new launches from sister brand CF Editions at the brand’s 18 Calvin Street studio on 15-20 September. Visitors will be able to see limited edition rug designs including Josef Albers’ Homage to the Square series and a runner by Gunta Stölzl plus artist Kate Blee and the Stars collection. To join the ‘Living with Legacy: From Functional Objects to Cherished Companions’ talk on Tuesday evening, see the company’s website.

Also east, Floor Story will show off two inspiring new collections at its 4 Cairo Studios location. The company’s collaboration with Turquoise Mountain is a 4-rug collection called Allotment, designed by Gill Thorpe. The hand-knotted floral-inspired designs have a vintage aesthetic and feature traditional medallion and quad motifs in bold colour combinations. Alongside this, the dynamic Duct collection is inspired by Bek Smith’s experimentation with duct tape.

Amy Kent x Lewis Wood

Moving west, Design Centre Chelsea Harbour‘s programme for Focus will keep rug fans busy. This year, House Guests include Coral + Hive, and Amy Kent, who will present a collaboration with fabric and wallpaper company Lewis & Wood. The venue is full of top rug brands including Topfloor by Esti, Jaipur Rugs, Tufenkian and The Rug Company.

On Monday 15 September, the extensive Focus programme includes the talk The Art of Treasure Hunting by Wendy Morrison and Pearl Lowe, who will discuss the joy of styling interiors with antiques and vintage pieces. Later that day Jennifer Manners will host interior designers Eadie & Crole to discuss, Townhouse or Farmhouse? Design Details That Make All The Difference.

Nearby in the brand’s Fulham Road showroom, Tai Ping will present Ami, a new collection of hand-tufted rugs designed by AB Concept, inspired by traditional cable knits.
