Twenty rug retailers and industry figures select their favourite rug from the past twenty years. Here Naïry Vrouyr of N. Vrouyr gives her reason for choosing a rug by Tufenkian

Naïry Vrouyr of N. Vrouyr chooses Rag Weave Roseberry, Tufenkian

It was a much harder question than I’d thought! But I’ll somehow keep it simple. This is the rug that probably caught our attention the most in the past twenty years. Modern, timeless, it combines with classical and more modern interiors. When the rug hangs in the window, it drags people inside. Even if those coming in for that rug did not always end up buying it, it was for sure one of the most popular designs.

Living in a country where the sunshine is scarce, it brings in a lot of the warmth people are looking for. We’ve sold this rug in all kinds of interiors, from the country house library to the more minimalistic interior with just a touch of colour of the rug, or even the Art Deco house that needs a connection between the original architecture and the more modern furniture.

I think designer Kevin Walz did a great job at finding an extremely well-balanced design that crossed many borders and could please a wide public. The addition of silk to the wool is definitely the detail that captivates the attention of most rug lovers looking for that little more in their rug.

For us it is great to know that the relationship we built up with Tufenkian over the past forty years still lasts. And, selling some of their early designs, it feels like we made the right choice to focus our attention on a team of professionals who produce long-lasting rugs that will go on for generations.
