On 30 April, trend forecast agency WGSN, alongside partner and colour system Coloro revealed that Luminous Blue is their Colour of the Year for 2027. WGSN comments: ‘This vibrant blue shade embraces traditional craft and dyeing techniques, which continue to connect people through the transition of knowledge and skills.’ WGSN compares the shade to cobalt or the semi-precious stone lapis lazuli, ‘a vibrant blue pigment used for centuries’. Rug design from the past few years shows how the colour has made its presence known. WGSN refers to Luminous Blue as ‘gender inclusive’ and ‘transseasonal’ and, while blue can be viewed as a cooling shade, this tone’s intensity is very invigorating.
