COVER Editor Lucy Upward speaks to Michael Mandapati of Warp & Weft

For the sixth edition of COVER Conversations, COVER editor Lucy Upward talks to Michael Mandapati of Warp & Weft, New York, on the occasion of the brand’s 25th anniversary. Mandapati shares his views on how the company found its place to the top of the industry and opens up about his own personal textile collections, which will feature in a book to be released later this year. The subject then moves on to creating a legacy and the importance of relationships formed within the rug community.

Michael Mandapati: ‘I don’t put anything out there if I don’t love or believe in it, or if I’m not passionate about it. It doesn’t happen. It never happened until today and I hope it never happens. I don’t react to markets, what’s selling or not selling, what are the trends or what are the colours. I’m like a horse with blinders, I’m focused. I know what I love and I just keep doing it.’
