Weaving Poems showcases Afghan handwoven carpets that blend tradition, poetry and contemporary design
At Sotheby’s this summer, Weaving Poems presents a striking fusion of cultural memory and contemporary craft. Created by Afghan designer Maryam Omar in partnership with the women weavers of Bamiyan, the 24 carpets in this series are rich with symbolism, echoing the valley’s storied past and poetic traditions. Using local wool and natural dyes, each handwoven piece channels generations of artistry into bold, modern compositions. On view from July 28 to August 22, 2025, in London, the exhibition is part of Turquoise Mountain’s 20th anniversary, honouring Afghan heritage while amplifying the voices and vision of its women artisans.
