Grace Atkinson rugs on show in London

This vibrant selection of rugs and blankets is currently on show in East London

All In Each by Grace Atkinson is a striking hand-knotted rug collection that explores interconnectedness through abstract form and colour. Drawing from themes of unity and individuality, each design features layered, organic shapes that appear to merge and separate, echoing the complexity of human relationships and identity. Atkinson’s background in fine art is evident in the painterly quality of the compositions, where subtle tonal shifts and bold silhouettes create a sense of depth and emotion.

The rugs are handcrafted using a traditional technique developed in the 14th century by the Hutsuls: highlanders who have inhabited the Carpathian mountains of Ukraine for centuries. A synergy with nature forms the basis of the rugs’ construction. Made using wool from regional mountain sheep, they are woven by hand on a wooden loom and submerged in the mountain river to felt the wool fibres before being handbrushed on one side.
