If you have ever attended one of the previous five XTANT events you will know what a joyful and uplifting experience it is, particularly—but not exclusively— for the textile enthusiast.

The May 2025 edition will run under the title of ‘Huaca’, the Quechua word for a sacred thing or place—an apt description for the gathering of multiple traditions and peoples.

The various patio locations will include the main fair at Can Vivot, showing seventy-five artists/artisans from thirty-five countries, alongside Off XTANT, an open studios programme in Palma. A fibre art exhibition will be on at the Es Baluard Museum, and this year a sacred music programme will also be part of the schedule. One further exhibition is yet to be announced, but the workshop progamme is ready now and accepting bookings online. Learn about shimenawa—the making of a sacred rope—with WARA, try to make nuno silk with Laurine Malengreau, become an expert in tie dye with master artisan Abduljabbar Khatri, learn about basket weaving with Carlos Fontales and the art of mending with Bronwen Jones.

Kavita Parmar, one of the two founders and organisers of the event, comments: ‘XTANT aims to inspire the new generations to value sustainability, personal identity, tradition and responsible consumption over commercial tendencies based on unbridled consumption.’

Expect to enjoy beautiful textiles and find new experiences in the most friendly of atmospheres.
