Milan Design Week starts next week and the list of events to see is growing by the minute. Here we highlight 22 premium events for rug enthusiasts, to ensure you don’t miss the best on show.
The latest issue of COVER will be given out free at Salone del Mobile on the stand of Jan Kath, Hall 14, stand B37 and also in town, at the Alberto Levi Gallery on via San Maurilio 24, where Lila Valadan‘s IL NULLA – Heech/Nothingness exhibition will be on show as part of 5Vie.

Salone del Mobile – Rho fairground

The biggest design show in town. This year don’t miss the latest collections—including the fabulous Cyprinus series—by Jan Kath showing in Hall 14, stand B37. There you can also pick up a copy of COVER 78, which features the new designs.
Hall 24 will be home to brands such as Illulian, Ames, nanimarquina, Verdi and Warli. Moooi is at the fair this year, located in Hall 22, where you will also find Woodnotes and Amini, who will be showing new designs by Dordoni Studio, Manlio Rho and Elisa Ossino. Don’t miss Carpet Edition, Casa Amar, Loloey, Louis de Poortere and Tapis Rouge.

Lila Valadan, IL NULLA – Heech/Nothingness – Alberto Levi Gallery, via San Maurilio 24

Alberto Levi Gallery will present the exhibition ‘Il Nulla [Heech / Nothingness]’ in collaboration with its long-term professional partner, the pioneering Lila Valadan. Focusing on minimalism, the show invites visitors to escape Milan’s urban tempo into a contemplative silence. See COVER 78 for more about the exhibition.

Christopher Farr x The Future Perfect – Bocci Milan – Via Giuseppe Rovani, 20

An exciting event for Milan this year, you can not only celebrate 20 years of Bocci but also view a special collaboration by The Future Perfect’s David Alhadeff and rug brand Christopher Farr. The apartment will be curated by David Alhadeff, founder of The Future Perfect, and will feature handmade rugs produced by Christopher Farr.

Battilossi, We Dream in Color – Via dell’Orso 16

Maker of beautiful rugs, Battilossi’s exhibition at the brand’s Milan showroom will be a sensory journey where design meets the soul, and colour becomes the voice of time and space.

Hypercode by Roberto Sironi, cc-tapis – Via Gaudenzio Fantoli 15/5

At the brand’s headquarters near Linate Airport—the giant yet super-chic hub that cc moved to in 2023—Italian designer Roberto Sironi’s installation Hypercode will be dedicated to graffiti across the ages, ‘from prehistoric times to contemporary urban culture’. We cannot wait to see it. For the first year, cc-tapis will not be at Salone del Mobile.

Bruno Munari x Amini – Amini showroom, Via Borgogna 7

Amini’s exhibition dedicated to Munari will include two new collections of rugs and a special installation curated by designer David Dolcini at the showroom in via Borgogna. This project has emerged from the collaboration between the company and designer David Dolcini, an expert in the work of Munari. Together, they have translated Munari’s work into creations that perfectly reflect his unique and pioneering vision.

Jaipur Rugs x Richard Hutten – Jaipur Rugs Gallery, Via Marco Minghetti 8

Jaipur’s latest playful collection with Richard Hutten, tilted Playing with Tradition, will be on show. The collection interweaves deeply embedded rug traditions with contemporary style, and adds a playful and humorous touch. Read more about the designs in COVER 78.

Balmaceda, Jardines collection, Galleria d’arte il Vicolo, Via Pietro Maroncelli 2

Exciting Mexican rug brand Balmaceda Studio debuts in Milan with the installation ‘Jardines’, which pays homage to the visionary legacy of Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx.

Edelgrund at Menu – Chiesa Anglicana Tutti i Santi, Via Solferino, 17

The beautiful flatweaves of Edelgrund will be part of the Menu show alongside work by Bodo Sperlein and his designs for GAN Rugs.

Fischbacher 1819 x Marcel Wanders, Ancient Memories – Via del Carmine, 9

Inspired by the enduring power of memory and the tactile nature of materials, Marcel Wanders’ Ancient Memories collection of fabrics and rugs for Fischbacher, explores how textiles can evoke history and emotion.

El Espartano and Maison Rhizomes at Rossana Orlandi – Via Matteo Bandello, 16

Rossana Orlandi’s show is always a must-see. This year El Espartano returns to the show with a new collection by Japanese artist Miroco Machiko, curated by Lidewij Edelkoort. There will also be rugs by Maison Rhizomes.

édition 1.6.9. at Nouvelle Vague – Palazzo Parigi, Corso di Porta Nuova 1

Paris-based rug brand édition 1.6.9. will be showing in two places in Milan this April. The brand’s Tellus Mater collection designed by Sandra Benhamou will be at the ‘Nouvelle Vague’ show by Pradier Jeaneau and at Palazzo Parigi at Corso di Porta Nuova 1.

Altai Gallery presents a collection of antique carpets and tapestries with exuberant wool.

Sahrai Senses – Via A. Manzoni 38

Sahrai Senses draws inspiration from the Sahrai family’s nearly 200-year legacy in the world of fine carpets, celebrating the beauty of Persian culture through a contemporary installation enhanced by cutting-edge technology. A mesmerising, animated carpet will be brought to life by immersive video projections in the centre of the exhibition. The Sahrai Lifestyle installation will be further along the road at Via Manzoni 45.

Kelly Wearstler x The Rug Company, Teatro Gerolamo, Piazza Cesare Beccaria 8

Kelly Wearstler’s latest rug collection for The Rug Company, titled Crescendo, features in COVER 78. For Milan Design Week the entire collection will be on show at Teatro Gerolamo.

Beni Rugs x Studio KO – Via Cesare Correnti 14
For MDW, Beni will launch a new collection with Studio KO featuring five weaving methods and introducing Rabat, a sophisticated reinterpretation of the intricate R’bati carpet: a hyper-fine point knotted style hailing from Morocco’s capital and unchanged in 500 years until now.

Alcova – Villa Borsani and Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, Varedo

Alcova is the show everyone has been talking about. The ninth edition of the event will be in four locations. Alongside the historic residences of Villa Borsani and Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, Alcova introduces two new sites: the former SNIA Factory and the Pasino Glasshouses. Displays will include rugs by Nodus and Belgium is Design’s show of Belgian textile design ‘Woven Whispers’.

Ways of Seeing, cc-tapis – Piazza Santo Stefano 10

cc-tapis’ beautiful Piazza Santo Stefano showroom will be home to ‘Ways of Seeing’, a display by eleven creatives, some of who have collaborated with cc-tapis previously. Bethan Laura Wood, Cristián Mohaded, Cristina Celestino, Damien Ajavon, Destroyers/ Builders, Eny Lee Parker, Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost and Dominique Perrault, India Mahdavi, Kwangho Lee, Patricia Urquiola and Wild Animals will be looking at the dialogue between technology and traditional craftsmanship. The title comes from a BBC series of the same name shown in 1972 and written by John Berger.
