The foundational profiles of Moooi Carpets and Gensler are radically different yet surprisingly compatible when it comes to rug design. Moooi Carpets is the commercial spin-off of Moooi, the famously rebellious Dutch design company, while Gensler is the world’s largest architecture firm, known for its corporate megaprojects.

For the two companies’ new collaborative project, the Visionary Perspectives collection, Gensler was ‘product design consultant’, while Moooi contributed expertise to realise the concepts. ‘We don’t tell our designers what to do. We listen… and hope to realise their design dreams,’ is how Moooi explains its approach. Five Gensler division directors created mood boards to express their vision of the future as it relates to their individual practice areas: media, financial services, hospitality, technology and professional services.

The results are offered as woven broadloom, rugs and tiles in five colourways and a choice of low-pile or soft-yarn polyamide or wool. The directors’ ‘visions’ are: Spotlight, which captures the fast-paced nature of media; Tranquility, which balances the corporate feel of financial services with residential flair; Rugged/Refined, a ‘calm and grounding’ vision from hospitality; Weft–Warp–Web, representing technology; and Terrestre, which ‘interprets natural elements’ to reflect professional services.
