With the arrival of Spring comes an array of design shows, one of the first of which is London Design Week
From 10–14 March, more than 600 international brands will gather at the Design Center, Chelsea Harbour, defining trend directions with their new products and collections. London Design Week will be a fount of inspiration for those interested in design, with a range of talks and workshops also held during the five days of the show.

Celebrating twenty-five years in carpet design, Deirdre Dyson will showcase her new Light Play Collection during the week. Featuring thirteen innovative designs exploring light through colour, geometry and form, each bespoke piece is handcrafted by Nepalese artisans using the finest Tibetan wool and silk, reflecting the brand’s commitment to ethical production and superior quality over the past quarter century.

Jacaranda Carpets and Rugs, a brand with a reputation for creating designs as beautiful and texturally interesting as they are sustainable, will preview two new customisable designs during the week. On Tuesday 11 March, the company will host a talk with Jo Hamilton in its showroom entitled ‘The Art of Designing Bespoke Rugs’.

Other showrooms worth visiting during the week include that of Topfloor by Esti, in which the Yours Naturally range of jute flatweave rugs will be on display. The brand will also be launching a new collection called ‘Monochrome Stories’ with celebrated Japanese artist Hashimoto Naotsugu, based on his artworks using the dry-point print technique. There will be a preview of the collection on Wednesday 12 March, alongside a demonstration of shimputai by Sachiko Pearce to continue the Japanese theme.

Those with a taste for chinoiserie should not miss the Wendy Morrison showroom, where ‘Kujaku and Moondance: Nature’, two collections celebrating storytelling, will be unveiled. A discussion on the art of custom rug design between Morrison herself and interior designer Caroline Palk will take place in the showroom on Tuesday 11 March.

Don’t forget to visit the new Jaipur Rugs showroom at the Design Center. The brand will be hosting a talk in its showroom with Bidisha Sinha of Zaha Hadid Architects and Greg Foster on 11 March, during which the pair will discuss Zaha Hadid Architects’ approach to design and fabrication and how products today can blend artisanal heritage with bold innovation. Other showrooms with lovely rug offerings include Tufenkian Artisan Carpets, Jennifer Manners Design, Stark Carpet and Sacco Carpet.
