‘My clients are constantly saying how they have never seen this quality of weaving made by modern weavers. Usually, we can only find this quality from older or vintage rugs’

Leading name in authentic Moroccan handmade products, WeBerber announces an exciting collaboration with renowned New York artist and designer Mika Cali. This unique partnership blends the timeless craftsmanship of Moroccan artisans with the innovative designs of Mika Cali, resulting in a collection of exquisite Moroccan rugs that stand as true works of art.

WeBerber has always been dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of Moroccan weaving techniques, particularly those from Khemisset. This collaboration with Mika Cali represents a harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity. Mika’s designs, which explore the laws of physics, energetic frequencies, and neural pathways, are seamlessly woven into the intricate patterns of Berber rugs, creating pieces that are both visually stunning and deeply meaningful.

Mika Cali’s journey into the world of Berber symbolism began almost serendipitously. As an artist, Mika had been painting unique symbols for nearly five years before discovering that they were letters from the Berber alphabet. This revelation led her to research Berber symbolism and weaving techniques, igniting a passion to collaborate with Moroccan weavers.

‘It took me several years working with other weavers in Morocco to eventually find Abdelghani and the weavers at WeBerber,’ says Mika. ‘It was important to not only create the most authentic and highest quality of weavings, but in order for this to be a genuine collaboration, we all had to benefit from it. After learning how Abdelghani and his family conduct their business, ensuring the weavers are provided with fair wages and conditions, it was important for us all to meet.’

Usually, we can only find this quality from older or vintage rugs,’ Mika explains. ‘I even have a client who has been keeping a rug in his store window to test the quality of the dyes and if they can withstand the bleaching of the sun. It has been 3 years in his window, getting hit with harsh rays of the afternoon sun and the color has not faded.’WeBerber and Mika Cali share a commitment to authenticity and quality.
