In part five of this series, we look at the favourite rug selections from the Hali Publications Ltd. directors, David Young and Ben Evans.
LL, Watercolours collection, Shame Studios
David Young’s choice was one from the Watercolours Collection by Shame Studios, which was explored in the ‘Collections’ feature of COVER 73. The collection is a collaboration between the company and Leveson Design, drawing from the watercolour sketches by Cindy Leveson. David explains that: ‘This rug stood out to me because it feels like a painting you can walk on—it’s got this fluid, watercolour vibe that’s totally different from anything else I’ve seen. It’s both modern and rooted in tradition, which gives it that unique balance that really caught my eye.’
Rug designed by Nancy Nicholson for Christopher Farr
Ben Evans’ choice can be found in the Collections feature of COVER 74. A collaboration between Christopher Farr and Nancy Nicholson, the three-rug collection is testament to the firm’s ever-increasing production in Afghanistan. Ben explains that this rug ‘was on display in Turkey at ACEBA, and visitors really liked the way the colours of the warp had been modulated to give it a unique texture’. For him, this piece is ‘simple but done extremely well, featuring only a few elements that are executed skilfully.’
