Trends: Made in Afghanistan

July 30, 2024

Our selection of ten beautiful designs that were made in Afghanistan

Rugs produced in Afghanistan today are as stylish and contemporary as those from any other global production site. But they also have a distinctive aesthetic not found elsewhere, thanks to the attributes of the local Ghazni wool. Here are ten examples of Afghan rugs put into production by ten companies who believe Afghan rugs are special.

Collective Black Carlotta Fortuna x Amini

First released in 2022, the Collective collection remains a striking and also popular design with outstanding texture.

Darya Amu Weavers

The Lahore-based company owns its own workshops and looms in Northern Afghanistan.

Seychur carpet Rica Basagoiti

The first Afghanistan-made rug by the Spanish brand and perhaps not the last.

Suzani Wool Silk Rugs

One of a number of beautiful rugs in the W&S Afghan collection, all hand-knotted in handspun, vegetable-dyed Ghazni wool

Rug by Caravan Rugs

One of many soft, classic designs by Caravan that are handknotted in Afghanistan.

Girih Knots Rugs

This spring, Knots released two rugs made in Afghanistan in partnership with Turquoise Mountain

Water Spencer Fung x Christopher Farr
