As Spring arrives and we head towards warmer months, it is time to think about what outdoor rugs your exterior space requires. While more time is spent at home due to the pandemic, more time is also being spent in our gardens. For Summer 2022, garden furniture and accessories are set to be big sellers as we stay close to home but enjoy the good weather.
The rise of high-performance materials and rugs fit for outdoor environments means that we are now growing accustomed to seeing weavings by the poolside, in gardens, on terraces and in nautical settings. Outdoor rugs combine style with endurance, often using innovative fibres, and our favourites come in sustainable, recycled or recyclable materials.
Here we highlight 6 great new outdoors rugs for Summer 2022.

At the recent Kips Bay Palm Beach, interior design firm from Houston, Texas, Pearl Design Interiors was in charge of a section of the outside space, where the firm placed a black and white checkerboard outdoor rug by New Moon. Grounding the black and white table settings with pink flourishes, the rug packed a punch but also gave the exterior space a homely feel.
For 2022 French rug brand La Manufacture Cogolin step outside with a collection of outdoor rugs based on classic design from the company archive. Maquis is a design taken from the 2015 Epissures collection, originally handwoven in raffia but here woven in France on 19th century Jacquard hand-looms in sailing cord.

The recently launch Kit Kemp x Annie Selke rug collection comprises a number of designs in a variety of materials and techniques with several designs like this fresh and summery Always Greener rug in 100% PET for indoor or outdoor use, available in a selection of sizes.

Loloi’s collaboration with Justina Blakeney of The Jungalow last year featured some fantastic rug designs, full of live and energy (see COVER 64). The collaboration has extended to an outdoor series—the Pisolino collection, power-loomed in polyester. This design PSO-01 Ivory is a favourite for its fresh and lively take on a floral setting.

Spanish brand nanimarquina has number of outdoor rug collection but the latest is the Formula Contract pieces, which offer over 250 possibilities with 5 models and 30 colours. They are made of 100% recycled PET and are available as a hand-tufted, hand-loomed, dhurrie, kilim or sumac rug.Â
Ferriera de Sa’s latest outdoor rug collection offers a great range of designs in diverse shapes and colourways. Available from 8mm to 16mm pile heights in hand-tufted high tenacity polyolefin, the rugs are sure to bring an element of sophistication to outside spaces. As an exciting space delineator, the dynamic Mykonos design offers a way to pep up any patio.
