During lockdown people have been reflecting on their interior spaces. Lucy Upward looks at some striking examples of what is possible

Pieces Homes B&B, Kennebunk

Wavy Rug by Pieces

A residence becomes a showroom with Pieces Homes, a shoppable B&B in Kennebunk, Maine created by design product line Pieces by An Aesthetic Pursuit. The four-bedroom space is available to book on Airbnb and features products by Pieces and other brands such as Vitra and Artek. The highlight of the main living space has to be Pieces’ custom hand-tufted Wavy Rug design, which is a sixty-feet long c-shape and was made in one single piece. The new rug collection also includes Wavy Runner, Three Stripe Rug and the Snapshot Rug. Bright colourful floorcoverings are an important feature in the living space. All products are available to purchase on the Pieces Homes website.

FCH Apartment, Krakow

Onda by Atelier Février

Polish interior designer Piotr Paradowski set up his design studio in Krakow in 2014. This 2019 project, the FCH Apartment, is one of many Paradowski has worked on in the city. An example of clean lines and muted tones with splashes of colour, the living room of this slick interior features the beautiful Onda rug by Atelier Février, which brings pattern into the room setting. As a designer who likes to work with traditional manufacturing methods, this hand-knotted design was surely a great addition for Paradowski’s vision.

Edinburgh Residence

Floral Waves by Wendy Morrison

This Edinburgh interior is in fact the bedroom of Scottish rug designer Wendy Morrison, who started her eponymous company back in 2004. The rich yet calming colours of pink and green feature heavily in the interior scheme. These tones are highlighted in Morrison’s own luxurious rug design Floral Waves, which is hand-knotted in wool and silk. Inspired by Japanese culture, the carpet’s opulent design is reflected further in the Coordonné mural on the far wall. In designing Floral Waves Morrison wanted a rug that created ‘a colourful yet serene sensory experience’. Maximalist heaven!
