Events update: Decorex, Domotex, The Rug Show, High Point Market, Las Vegas Market, Atlanta Market and more

July 06, 2020

Exhibitions are opening up and event organisers are starting to make plans for Autumn 2020 and next year

Decorex 2020 (3-5 November), Europe’s leading event for interior design professionals, has made the decision to transition from a live event to an all virtual event that will allow the design industry to source, learn, network, gain inspiration and overcome challenges in this new environment. Some of COVER’s favourite rugs at Decorex International back in October 2019 were the latest designs of London homeware brand A Rum Fellow. Flatweaves were a particular highlight, including the refreshing Hikira (pictured) that comes in a number of different colourways.

Plans for Domotex 2021 to take place in Hannover on 15-18 January are already underway. Germany has been able to ease lockdown earlier than much of Europe and in August the details of the show will be confirmed. The keynote theme for 2021 has already been announced as ‘Cover New Grounds’, aiming to focus our minds on three concepts: ‘Balanced Living. Sustainable Living. More than Floor.’

The Rug Show New York 2020 organisers recently announced that the show—which normally takes place in September—will be postponed until further notice. They are in talks with venues in New York to find the best solution for still running a show in 2020 when lockdown has eased. Keep an eye on the COVER website for updates on the situation.

In response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the High Point Market Authority is lengthening the Fall Market dates in an effort to spread out attendance and account for expected reduced capacity requirements in showrooms and buildings. The Fall Market will now take place over 9 days from 13-21 October 2020. High Point rug regulars include New Moon, S&H, Samad, Art Resources, Tamarian and Creative Touch.

The Las Vegas Market normally takes place in July but for 2020 has been moved to 30 August-3 September. Organiser IMC surveyed its entire buyer and supplier database to understand market needs. Survey results indicated an ‘immediate need for inventory, preference for buying new product from existing vendors and intent to source both at physical markets and on digital platforms’. Expect brands such as, Nourison (pictured), Feizy, Safavieh, Mastour, Unique Loom, Capel Rugs Inc, Dalyn Rug Company, Akara Rugs and Tufan Rugs.

Alongside Las Vegas, the Summer Atlanta Market has also shifted its dates from July and is now set to run on 13-18 August. If you plan to attend expect rigorous health and safety protocols implemented by IMC and of course some great rug design by brands such as Tamarian (pictured), Anadol and French Accents.

Plans for DOMOTEX USA 2021 to take place in Atlanta on 1-3 March have been postponed. The decision to postpone the 2021 edition of the trade show is based on several factors, including the results of extensive market research as well as the ongoing global conditions. The new date and location for the next DOMOTEX USA will be shared when available.

On 1 June, the TextielMuseum in Tilburg opened its doors to visitors, who have the opportunity to see the show ‘Common threads | Old and new stories in art and design’. The exhibition focuses on storytelling, presenting personal and cultural perspectives and showing that our world is made up of multiple narratives.

The Historical and Ethnological Museum in St. Gallen, Switzerland is currently showing the exhibition ‘Undiscovered Minimalism’ by Werner Weber. The textile show features a collection of the original stunning Mazandaran kilims from Weber’s book Undiscovered Minimalism, which was published in 2011. The show ends on 31 January 2021.
