Outdoor rugs

For their partnership with the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach, New Moon Rugs transformed their classic Vines rug into a product suitable for outdoor use in interior designer Colette van den Thillart’s pavilion. ‘Outdoor spaces are inherently cold feeling,’ says van den Thillart. ‘Even the nicest of flagstones or brick tends to feel and look rough and grubby. Rugs in the outdoors have a way of anchoring an area so a seating arrangement becomes defined and psychologically feels cleaner and safer. Of course, like with indoor rugs, they can bring a major aesthetic factor like the rug in my Pavilion does… decoratively using colour and pattern for a real inviting or artistic effect.’

Grandmillennial style

Courtney McLeod of Manhattan-based Right Meets Left Interior Design highlighted the Amelie Collection as one of her favourite product lines at the most recent edition of High Point Market. ‘Playing perfectly into the granny-chic design style heavily trending with the Millennial set (coined “Grandmillennials”), the Amelie Collection by Rifle Paper Co. for Loloi is so delightful and joyful,’ she comments. ‘Bursting with colour, the fresh take on a very traditional design offers plenty of opportunities to mix traditional and modern pieces to create a look that feels very today.’

Looking to tradition

Award-winning designer Alidad taps into his heritage as well as his past experience as a specialist in the Islamic department at Sotheby’s to create timeless, elegant yet comfortable interiors. For his Octagonal Library in Kuwait, Alidad echoed 18th- and 19th-century Syrian and Ottoman houses covering the walls with hand-painted papers that are finished with both painting and gilding to create a warm and refined room that feels like it has been there forever. The beautiful custom handwoven octagonal carpet, inspired by 19th-century Indian Agra carpets, adds his signature richness to the room.
