Back to school and back to work means one thing: it’s time for The Rug Show New York, America’s dedicated rug event which offers a comprehensive summary of the best high-end handmade rugs being offered in the US and beyond today.
Over fifty companies will be on show this September, including new exhibitor Knots Rugs. The London-based firm is branching out to the American market and will be showing new and classic designs with their US agent Sara Bopp.
Tamarian will be bringing the first rugs from two collaborative projects with fellow Baltimore-based artists Annie Howe—who creates beautiful handmade papercuts—and Jessie & Katey, purveyors of colourful art experiences in public spaces.
Also full of colour, look out for Tufenkian’s Cubiste Collection, plus the new distressed-effect Silk Traditional Collection from Sahar, the Tinley Collection from Stark Studio Rugs and New Moon’s new Faroe Collection, which mixes a Pacific Northwest feel with Scandinavian influence. Scandi flatweaves can always be found with Rug & Kilim while Wool & Silk’s latest collection is a new generation of the firm’s Carpet Design Award winning rug Reggae.
COVER’s Designers’ Series will see two CEU-accredited talks, moderated by COVER Editor Lucy Upward, on Monday 9 September. For ‘The Power of the Rug’ she will be joined by Charles Pavarini III, Rachel Fasciani from Momeni, Bonnie Sutton from Knots Rugs, Taylor van der Mandele from Stark Studio Rugs, interior designer Keith Baltimore and Drew McGukin, the principal of Drew McGukin Design Group.
The second talk ‘Who made it? The real makers in design’ will include Matthew Bourne from Christopher Farr, Jim Ffrench of Beauvais Carpets, Susan Inglis, Executive Director at the Sustainable Furnishings Council and Reto Aschwanden of Label STEP. Join us in The COVER Lounge for complimentary drinks after the discussion.
Jürgen Dahlmanns of Rug Star will be part of another COVER Talk on Sunday at 3.30pm, discussing his Intimacy campaign with Lucy Upward and project collaborators Oscar Tatosian and Christiane Millinger.
Please join COVER at the show to watch the panel discussions, pick up a free issue or just relax in the COVER Lounge.
