Known as the most influential design fairs in the world, Salone del Mobile is a show where many new collections are launched. The hotly anticipated event runs alongside an inspiring design week that is spread across the city.

For 2018, cc-tapis is set to launch new products by masters of design Jean-Marie Massaud, Patricia Urquiola, Mae Engelgeer and Ludovica and Roberto Palomba at Salone (17-22 April) and at their Piazza Santo Stefano showroom. Also at the vast Salone fair will be Illulian, Bolon, Warli, Amini Carpets, and Golran with a new collection by India Mahdavi, also showing the brand’s Brera showroom.

At Superstudio in Tortona, Barcelona Rugs will display a host of new work, including collaborations with names such as Gerard Puxhe and Javier Mariscal. Nearby on Via Savona, the ever inventive Moooi will present ‘Through the Eyes of…’ and The Museum of Extinct Animals, displays that are sure to thrill. Further north, Jan Kath will yet again be part of the DAMN multi-designer show at Palazzo Litta on Corso Magenta, while Nodus has a great line-up of new rug designs to show off in the courtyard of the San Simpliciano Basilica, by the likes of Nendo, Maarten Baas and Alessandra Baldereschi.

In Brera, brand showrooms are a highlight and this year will see Katrin Greiling’s latest textile designs for Kinnasand entitled Structures adorning the Kinnasand showroom courtyard on Corso Monforte, while Stepevi will show off the company’s new Moonlight rug collection by Juan Montoya on via dell’Orso. Kasthall will launch a new series of rugs with Ilse Crawford at Piazza Paolo VI, Atelier Fevrier will show new collection À Point at Galleria Anna Maria Consadori and Rubelli‘s fabrics will adorn designer Cristina Celestino‘s interpretation of an old streetcar, Tramcorallo, which will move around the district.

Ventura Projects, who always organise great displays of work by up and coming creatives, has now moved from Lambrate to various locations near Milan’s Central Station. The second edition of Ventura Centrale, featuring the Silence collection by Nasser Nishaburi and Eileen Fisher‘s Waste No More installation (both featured in COVER 50), will again be held at abandoned warehouses underneath the station. The new Ventura Future will be based in three locations (Via Paisiello 6, Via Donatello 36, Viale Abruzzi 42) in the Loreto district in central Milan.

Don’t miss hanging out at Rossana Orlandi, where Russian carpet company Tapis Rouge Atelier will be presenting a selection of rugs including a new collection by the young designer Angelina Askeri, Henzel Studio will present the Frozen Cut collection and Google will make a Salone debut with an installation curated by Dutch trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort. Alongside this, a trip to see Nilufar’s Depot, a visit to Amini’s new showroom at via Borgogna 7, Studiopepe‘s Club Unseen display and Wednesday night at the 5Vie district for various show openings —are a must.
