At The Rug Show New York, 10-13 September, rug brand Creative Matters will be holding a series of CEU accredited Art Day workshops in collaboration with COVER, where guests to the show will be offered the chance to design their very own rug.
The Toronto company hosts regular themed Art Day activities for the staff to keep the creative juices flowing. Company founder Carol Sebert explains: ‘In an industry where we can get too accustomed to using a computer to create artworks, it was refreshing to return to our roots and pick up a paintbrush. We allow ourselves absolute freedom to create new artworks as motifs for new carpet designs.’

At The Rug Show New York, a special Art Day event will be hosted by Creative Matters in collaboration with COVER magazine, offering designers, students and visitors the opportunity to create a rug design. Participants will have an hour to experiment with pastel, charcoal, ink and wax resist on paper. The designer of the rug deemed ‘Best Design – Art Day at The Rug Show’ will then be given the opportunity to develop the artwork so that it can be taken into production by Creative Matters. They will be gifted a rug of their own design and another will be raffled with the proceeds going to the fairtrade NGO, Label STEP.
Ali McMurter, VP of Creative Matters states: ‘The Creative Matters team is excited to take our Art Day workshop to The Rug Show in 2017. The process is always a lot of fun, and it gives us a chance to connect with our colleagues in a new way. We hope that it will give participants at The Rug Show an insight into the complexities and nuance of rug design, with the added reward of potentially ending up with a handknotted rug of their own design to keep.’
There are limited places available on this CEU accredited workshop, so be in with the chance of making your rug design ideas a reality, email marketing@therugshow.com by 1 September to book your place on Art Day at The Rug Show New York.
