FABRICation is a touring exhibition featuring the work of seven artists, based in America all of whom ‘incorporate a textile sensibility’ in their practice.

Slow living, optical illusion, costume, femininity and the cycle of life are just some of the huge themes tackled in a wide ranging variety of colourful, mixed media tapestries, collages, creations and installations. All of the visually appealing works share a mutual respect for the repetitive process of the kind that are affiliated with textiles, and which invoke introspection and reflection. Exhibiting artists are: Erin E. Castellan, Kristy Deetz, Virginia Derryberry, Reni Gower, Rachel Hayes, Susan Iverson and Valerie Molnar.

“I knit for pleasure, happiness, goodness, authenticity, and hopeful affirmation.” – Valerie Molnar (artist, FABRICation)

“For me, looking (when it is done slowly and with attention) is pure pleasure.” – Erin E. Castellan (artist, FABRICation)

The exhibition will show at the A.D Gallery, University of North Carolina, Pembroke 22 September – 31 October 2014. It was at Theatre Arts Galleries (TAG), High Point last year, and it will be shown at the Cummings Art Galleries , Connecticut College, New London 28 January – 4 March 2015, and at the Herron School of Art and Design, Indianapolis 13 January – 19 February 2016.
