Net Effect is the title of a new collection of carpet tiles, a project by the Net-Works ecological initiative, a partnership between carpet tile company Interface Europe and the Zoological Society of London. It developed in 2012, along the Danajon Bank area of the Philippines, with a focus on tackling the growing environmental effects that discarded fishing nets are having in the waters of some of the world’s poorest coastal communities and a way of recycling the company’s post-consumer nylon.
The Danajon Bank was selected as a pilot site to reduce fishing net waste because of its high density of fishers and nylon net usage. The Net Effect carpet tiles contain 100% recycled yarn – part disposed nets collected through the Net-Works strategy in the Philippines, and part used carpet fluff from INTERFACE’s ReEntry programme.
