The Timezone rug was designed by architects Andrei Zerebecky and Lukasz Kos, who run their design practice Four O Nine in Shanghai. The duo comment “With the Timezone rug our fascination with human made patterns on the earth’s surface examines non-physical markings. The world time zones affect most humans and their daily schedule, yet they are invisible and completely abstract boundaries. Sometimes they follow geographical and physical distinctions, as in the case of South America. In other cases they are seemingly arbitrary as in the case of North America. China is unique in that it only has one time zone for the entire country. As such, its boundary seems to impose on its neighbours.”
