On Wednesday 3 July, chairman of D&AD and co-founder of renowned design and innovation company Seymourpowell Dick Powell officially opened Part 2 of New Designers. The second exhibition featured the categories Furniture and Product Design (inc. Industrial Design), Visual Communications (Graphic Design and Illustration), Spatial Design (inc. Architecture and Interior Design), New: Prime Cuts (Motion Arts) and One Year On for designers who showed last year.
The ‘New Designers One Year On Award’ went to Harriet Riddell for her work ‘InStitch You (machine embroidery)’ The judges commented: “This person does something different: she captures the spirit of creativity. There is great scope to grow her brand and she will benefit greatly from the support that both Design Nation and The Design Trust can offer.”
Harriet Riddell explained: “Winning the award is a superb experience; I feel my hard work has paid off. I am so appreciative of the help and mentoring I will gain with my prize. It’s been an exciting roller coaster since leaving university and this award encourages many more exciting years ahead.”
The ‘New Designers 100% Design Award’ went to Leala Dymond for her ‘Bungy Soda’. Her prize is for her to show her work in the Emerging Brands section at 100% Design in September. The judges commented: “A playful, highly accessible design with a great name. Leala uses well-chosen textures and colours and shows huge potential.”
Leala Dymond commented: “It’s a great honour to get this award and I am really pleased that the public and judges appreciate my work.”
