Young Israeli textile designers, Sharon Shalita and Maytal Barokas have produced a series of handwoven, hand-printed textiles, which draw inspiration from 18th century Toile de Jouy. The fabrics combine luxury metal threads (silver and gold) and textile yarns (linen, cotton, silk) and feature pastoral compositions of plants and birds originated from engraving work. The, printed with silkscreen using blue ink decorate the fabrics and create an interesting narrative, which is both contemporary and traditional. The combination of soft and rough materials give the fabrics a three-dimensional surface. The work will be shown during Milan Design Week 2011 as part of the ‘Promisedesign: New design from Israel’ exhibition.
