To mark 20 years of COVER magazine being at the centre of the rug industry, our Autumn issue will be a special COLLECTORS' EDITION. The covetable printed issue of COVER 80 will be accompanied by a FREE digital edition, available on the websites of media...
COVER Issue 20 will focus on Creativity – an important factor for all designers. This focus will form a discussion point for Guest Editor American handweaver Sam Kasten. He will examine the nature of creativity and the role of the artisan in our society through interviews with a select group of textile artisans and their customers, architects and interior designers, including Douglas Mackie, Douglas Durkin and Calvin Tsao. Inspiring textiles artisans Sheila Hicks and Eunsuk Hur will be the focus of special profiles.
The second focus of the issue will be September’s London Design Festival. Our article ‘Secret London’ will reveal new and hidden talents happening in the capital; we hope to open you eyes to some fresh names and faces! We preview the LDF shows across the city and London talent is also celebrated with a look at the textile work of weaver Margo Selby and exciting contemporary carpet producers Knots Rugs, who produce Florence Broadhurst design carpets alongside their own striking collections.
Looking to carpets: Nilufar is releasing new limited edition rugs by Italian architect Caturegli Formica in October, Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson designs for Marta Måås-Fjetterström and we shall be covering the hot-off-the-press Timorous Beasties rugs for Brintons.
Furthermore, top international interior designers William Sofield, New York and Kelly Wearstler from Los Angeles, offer us the lowdown on style and substance.
